The desire for sleep became something visceral and monstrous. Forget operating heavy machinery, I could barely put one foot in front of the other and wept from exhaustion. ![]() I think of Sylvia Plath’s words “cow-heavy and floral/ In my Victorian nightgown”, and remember how I prowled the house in the early weeks in my own Victorian nightgown, looking like Bertha Mason from Jane Eyre, and probably as much of a fire hazard. “I became prey to daydreams and hallucinations, remembering conversations that had not occurred, glimpsing strange creatures through windows and in corners, a continual buzz of activity in my head both infernal and remote, as if a television had been left on in a next-door room,” says the writer Rachel Cusk. The cliche that lack of sleep is used as a means of torture is regularly trotted out, but the reality of what it can do to your brain is often skirted over, perhaps because it is simply too eerie, too gothic, too downright creepy to fully contemplate. For it is not desirable nor safe to have parents losing their minds from sleep deprivation either. Thankfully for them, no one has attempted to say this to my face, or to the faces of any of the other new mothers I know, several of whom have not had more than two consecutive hours of sleep for months now. I would definitely stay here again.I keep reading that in the western world we are obsessed with getting our babies to sleep through the night, when in fact this is neither natural nor, from a safety perspective, desirable (as poet Louise Glück has it: “Human beings must be taught to love/ silence and darkness”). The back deck has a great side view of Grandfather Mountain. The AC worked great in the cabin and the hot tub was very relaxing. ![]() We had great use of the pool table and games during our stay. Upstairs in the loft you found the pool table, the shuffleboard table, there was also a closet that had many different games and puzzles. The door it is split into two sections where you can open a small door, or you can open the full door for oven use. The only complaint here was the oven door is tricky to operate until you get used to it. The refrigerator was clean, the dishwasher worked well, and the stove looked fairly new. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, and utensils, there was a small charcoal grill and a larger sized gas grill onsite. Other than that, everything else was in good order. You could tell the cabin was cleaned by hitting the high points for a quick rental turn around. The inside was mostly clean, upon arrival we found some dust bunnies in the corners, one of the blankets was left out and not folded, we found some dirt around the corner of the floors, and the bathroom shower tiles could have used a better cleaning on them. The cabin was clean and well kept on the outside. We had a mid-sized SUV and it did not have any issues, there are 2 sharp turns on the driveway. The driveway is pretty steep, it is fully paved and very manageable with good weather. Overall, the property was clean and well kept. Within the community area you will also find facilities such as basket and soccer court, mini golf, etc.Īll in all, we had a great stay and we would definitely look forward for another visit! ![]() High Low Cabin - in the middle of nature - provides access to the peaceful and beautiful nature that is all around as well as providing high luxury in living can comfort.
